Coordinator's Message...
Happy Holidays!
This time of year brings the opportunity to give your friends, family, or neighbors a special gift!  This year, I’d like to ask for your help to give the gift of a free education by sharing the word about Wayne Township Adult Education’s classes.  As you likely know, we have classes to Learn English, complete High School Equivalency (HSE), pursue career training, or prepare to become a citizen. You can help ignite excitement and hope to help people pursue a new dream that will have a lasting impact in their lives.  Just direct potential students to adulted.info to see what's available so that we can spread the joy of giving the gift of training and education to as many people as we possibly can!

I would also like to share a very special wish this holiday season - we are looking for passionate adult volunteers to tutor students during our day (9AM-12PM)  or evening (
5:30PM-8:30PM
) classes. Please email Diana Segovia if you are interested or know someone who might be interested.

As you celebrate this holiday season, may the act of giving and receiving fill your hearts with overwhelming joy and appreciation!  We are wishing you and yours a truly happy holiday season!

--Christy McIntyre,
Program Coordinator for Wayne Township Adult Education

Seating for Our Next Round of Career Training is Underway!
An exciting new in-demand, high-wage career is right around the corner!  We are currently seating for popular certification classes such as medical assisting, dental assisting, HVAC, computer support, and many more.  Go to adulted.info/careers to see the entire list!  What's even better is that these classes and certifications come at NO COST to students!  Simply visit adulted.info/scholarship  and follow those two steps you find to be eligible for the funding to pay for the career certification you choose.  We pay for the certification, and YOU pay with your commitment, attendance, and successful completion of your certification.  Together we can make sure YOU have the future you've always dreamed of! Go to adulted.info/scholarship to make your appointment by December 14 as our program will be on winter break after that date.

2018 HSE Boot Camps Were a BIG Success
Many students were able to take advantage of our HSE Boot Camps held in September, October, November, and December!  HSE Boot Camp allowed students to earn the High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma in just three days of intense study and testing, as well as have their  $90 test fees paid through our scholarships!  Look for more boot camp opportunities in the new year at adulted.info/bootcamp.  Our HSE Boot Camp classes fill quickly, so if you're interested, make sure you sign up quickly!
The Spirit of Giving is ALIVE with Our Students!
Many students come to us with some life barriers that have made their journey a struggle.  It is often because of this struggle that our students are passionate about pulling together to give back to those in need.  This school year alone, Wayne Township Adult Education life coaches have organized a collection of coats (October), food (November), and holiday family sponsorship (December) for families in our school and in our community.  A special thank you goes to the life coaches, staff, and students who came together to make sure that families could stay warm this winter, have enough food to eat, and have some holiday happiness!  These acts of generosity prove that WE ARE WAYNE!
A Special THANK YOU!
A very special THANK YOU goes out to Chapel Hill Lions Club president Irene Snyder and her husband Joe Snyder for providing vision screening for our adult students at Wayne Township Adult Education.  They were able to evaluate 150 students during our day and evening classes, resulting in 61 students being immediately given corrective reading glasses and 18 students being referred for professional exams.  We were impressed with both Irene and Joe's professionalism and generosity in working with our students, many of whom are immigrants who had never received an eye exam before!  Their efforts will now result in our identified students to not only see printed materials in class better, but also to be more excited and encouraged to read!  We look forward to our continued partnership with the Snyders through the Lions Club in the new year.  Thank you for all you've done to serve our students and our community!
There's a Hero Inside All of Us!
We are gearing up for this year’s hero-themed IAACE (Indiana Association for Adult & Continuing Education) conference!  We are embracing the theme "There’s a Hero Inside All of Us" with our students, as we talked about spent time having some fun and talking with them about finding the hero inside of them, as well as paying tribute to some of the people who students viewed as heroes in their lives.  Look for more engagement with the HERO theme at Wayne Township Adult Education as we lead up to our annual IAACE conference.

Success Story
One Step at a Time... ELL to HSE!
WTAE student Juana Aguilar is in our foundations class, which helps students make the transition from the ELL to the HSE program.  Juana says that her teacher Linda Reynolds has taught her to love learning and she says, "Linda is the best teacher – she teaches us that it is beautiful to learn!"  Juana describes her life as being "dark" before learning English, as her interaction with others was limited due to the language barrier she had.  Now she feels the joy of learning and actually looks forward to learning and experiencing new things with more people now that she has learned so much.  She plans on continuing to learn every day and is looking forward to the day she earns her HSE!
